Akwa Ibom Residents Debunk Governor’s Claim On Power Supply

Residents of Akwa Ibom State have emphatically debunked recent claim by the state government that it has achieved 18 Hours of public power supply through the state-owned Ibom Power Plant.
Power supply to the national grid and Akwa Ibom State from the Plant,  according to its  new Managing Director, Dr. Victor Udoh, had appreciates significantly from 60 megawatts under the previous administration to just one over 100 megawatts since the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel came into power in the state.
Dr. Udoh said the improved generation capacity was due to regular gas supply by Septa Energy which had built a gas processing plant at Esit Eket Local Government Area.
Recently, the governor, Udom Emmanuel, at the weekly State Executive Council Meeting held on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, had made the claim of the state achieving 18 –  hour public electricity supply daily when he directed the state Ministry of Rural Development to equip the villages in the state which were  not yet connected to the national grid to ensure that they were connected within the shortest time possible.
This is to enjoy electricity since the state has achieved 18 – hour Daily electricity supply through the state owned Ibom Power Plant.
But investigation conducted by Daily Independent within Uyo Capital City, and some Local Governments revealed facts from residents sampled which disprove the State Government claim of 18 hour supply of public electricity.
