The All Progressives Congress (APC), has appointed three members from its youth wing into the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party. This is the first time any political party in Nigeria will appoint youth into its Board of Trustees which is the highest decision making organ of the party.
Although the party is yet to officially communicate the appointment, one of the appointees, Rinsola Abiola, announced on twitter a short while ago that she has just been appointed a member of the APC BoT.
“Hello, all. I, Rinsola Abiola, have just been officially appointed as a member of the #APC Board of Trustees.#YouthInclusion“
We however gathered that the two other appointees are Ismaeel Ahmed and Jasper Azuatulam.
Isameel Ahmed is the chairman of the All progressives Youth Forum (APYF), a group that pride itself as the most formidable youth group in the APC, which contributed in no small measure to the growth and success of the party. Incidentally, Ms. Abiola is a also a member of the APYF. She served as the forum’s pioneer PRO.
On the other hand, Jasper Azuatulam is the leader of Buhari Vanguard (BV), also a youth group that has consistently stood behind President Muhammadu Buhari long before he made up his mind to contest the 2015 presidential election.
Meanwhile, A Socio-cultural group, Odeda Parapo Youth Organization (OPYO) has congratulated the daughter of the late business mogul and grand-hero of Nigeria democracy, MKO Abiola, Miss 'Rinsola Abiola on her new appointment as a Member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Board of Trustees (BOT).
The group in a statement made available to Newsmen on Saturday in Lagos by its National Coordinator, Mr. Timothy Odedina described the appointment of Abiola as a victory of Nigeria youths over gerontocracy which the deposed People's Democratic Party (PPD) represents.
The group advised Abiola not to derail and betray the confidence reposed on her by the ruling party, reminding her that this is a golden opportunity for her to re-enact the virtues which her late father, Moshood Kashimawo Abiola preached but could not implement.
"We commend the APC for appointing youths into its APEX decision making body. It shows the party mean well for the younger generation. The western nations are developed today because they had placed priority on youths development.
"Any nation that fail to empower her youths has no future. Therefore, we appreciate the APC for not just using the youths to agitate for a CHANGE OF BATON; we salute the leadership of the ruling party for also incorporating the youths into the process of effecting the much anticipating CHANGE.
" We Urge Miss. 'Rinsola to tow the path of honour, uphold the legacies of service to humanity and selflessness which her late father left behind. We have confidence in your capacity, and we wish you well in the service to the nation of Nigeria" the group stated
