A high school basketball coach committed suicide on Monday,
just three days after he was accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy
in Providence.
R.I. Tyrone Dale, a coach at Juanita Sanchez School and the
West End Recreation Center, was charged with second-degree sexual assault and
released on $20,000 on Friday, according to Providence Police Maj. David
Lapatin.
Dale hanged himself on Monday, Lapatin said.
Police are working with
school officials to investigate any other incidents involving Dale, who was a
longtime youth basketball coach in the area.
Dale was one of four men who were
indicted after being accused of molesting boys at a home for troubled boys in
1992, according to Journal archives.
He pleaded no contest on an amended charge
of simple assault and received a year's probation. The home closed in
1993.
