Experts say that we’re more
likely to click with someone with whom we have similar interests.
“You can be attracted to someone
who is your opposite,”
. “There’s evidence to suggest it can be
part of the spark that makes you get together, but it is harder to turn that
into a long-term relationship.”
Green agrees that while there may
be a strong attraction initially, it can be harder to sustain.
“If you meet a
man who’s outgoing and you’re shy, for example, he may help to bring you out of
yourself,” she says. “But in the end, it’s differences in deep-rooted shared
values, such as money, fidelity, religion and family that can cause the most
conflict.”
