Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared today (Tuesday) as the first day of Zul-Hijja, 1436 AH. With this development, Muslims across the country are expected to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir on Thursday, September, 24,2015 which is equivalent to 10, Zul-Hijja, 1436 AH.
It would be recalled that the Saudi authorities on Sunday declared Wednesday, September 23, 2015, as the Arafat day which precedes Eid-el-Kabir.
A statement signed by Sa’idu Maccido on behalf of the Chairman, Sultanate Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, said the committee in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee, did not receive any report confirming the sighting of the new moon of Zulhijja, 1436 AH on Sunday, 13th Sept. 2015, which was the 29th day of Zulki’ida 1436 AH.
Also, the Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI) yesterday clarified that this year’s Eid-el-Kabir will hold on Sept. 24, not 23rd as earlier announced.
A statement by the Secretary-General, Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, yesterday said, “the date for the commencement of the month of Dhul-Hajj has been declared by the Sultanate Council’s Moon Sighting Committee to be Tuesday, September 15, 2015, while the Eid-el-Kabir will be on Thursday, September 24, 2015. The mix up is regretted please”.
Daily trust.
