Following the outcome of the Saturday/Sunday’s primary
election of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prince Abubakar Audu was denied
the certificate of return amidst protest by members of the party, questioning
his credibility.
A source who is also a member of the National Working
Committee of APC disclosed in confidence, that Audu was denied the certificate
of return, and asked to come back the following day because Tuesday was the
last day of grace given to other aspirants who wanted to petition the APC as
regards the outcome of the primaries Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-rufai
oversaw.
Reports gathered, reveal that some party leaders were
initially not comfortable with Audu’s candidacy because of the N11bn corruption
case he is still embroiled in.
Before now, the former governor was urged by the Kogi
Central and West, not to contest the election on the grounds of incompetence, a
move which he refused, claiming he remains Kogi’s messiah.
However, several protesters, carrying placard stormed the
APC National Secretariat on Wednesday while Audu was awaiting his certificate
of return, to protest his emergence as the party’s flag bearer in the
forthcoming Kogi State governorship election.
The protesters called on the national leaders of the APC
to get a more credible candidate to fly its flag with some of the placards reading
statements like “Kogi State say no to Audu”, “We need a credible leader”, “APC,
do the right thing”.
Meanwhile, the outcome of the protest remains unknown as
the party is yet to give an official statement on the issue.
