Rivers State, the governor, Nyesom Ezenwo
Wike, has directed the immediate payment of the backlog of salaries owed civil
servants in the state.
The
governor claimed to have inherited two months unpaid salaries from the
immediate past administration in the state which had earlier sparked off a
series of protests by workers demanding why the former administration refused
to pay them.
Wike
assured civil servants that their welfare would be given top priority by his
administration, adding that on no account would they be owed salaries.
He
expressed his commitment to promoting the
interest of all people resident in the state.
He
also stated that funding of projects would not be a challenge in the state
government’s commitment to rehabilitate and reconstruct key roads in state
capital, Port Harcourt.
Speaking
during his inspection tour of the East
West-Elelenwo-TransAmadi-Garrison Road which has a bridge, on Wednesday,
Governor Wike assured contractors that his administration had taken
steps to ensure that road projects were adequately funded.
