Senegal
has become the latest country in Africa to ban thin plastic bags to protect the
environment.
It
follows similar moves in Cameroon, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Mauritania where
the authorities estimated 70% of cattle and sheep in the capital, Nouackchott
were dying from ingesting plastic bags.
The
Senegalese government says the countryside is littered with five million
discarded bags.
