The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN),
Cross River State, has demanded the immediate release of its member, Pastor
Seyi Adekunle, who was kidnapped recently in Calabar, warning the kidnappers to
avoid God’s wrath.
Pastor Adekunle of Living Faith Church, a.k.a Winners’ Chapel,
was on Saturday night kidnapped in his parish along IBB Way, Calabar, while
praying alongside other members of the congregation.
This came as sporadic gunshots were heard around Calabar waterways
in the early hours of yesterday, following a gun duel between suspected
hoodlums and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a press statement jointly endorsed by the PFN chairman in the
state, Pastor Lawrence Ekwok, and the secretary, Apostle Frank Umo, the group
condemned in strong terms the sudden kidnap of a clergyman.
“The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Cross River State,
condemns in strong terms the kidnap of the pastor of Living Faith Church, a.k.a
Winners’ Chapel, Airport Parish, Calabar, Pastor Seyi Adekunle, last Saturday.
“The PFN calls for the immediate release of the servant of God
by his captors to avoid the wrath of God falling on them”, the statement issued
yesterday in Calabar partly reads.
Ekwok, who described the act as repulsive and devilish, appealed
to the police to ensure the release of the pastor.
While confirming the early morning gunshots adjacent to Calabar
waterways, the police public relations officer, ASP Hogan Bassey, said the
marine police post was attacked by yet to be identified gunmen.
