The fortunes of Aero Contractor airline may have started nose-diving again as staff of the company are poised for a show down with the management over poor welfare and working conditions.
This is coming as one
of the planes of the Airline narrowly escaped an air disaster some couple of
days ago.
The Kaduna bound
aircraft, which took off from Lagos, was diverted to Abuja when it suddenly
began to experience loss of cabin pressure, which necessitated passengers on
board to recourse to use of mask oxygen.
Despite reports on
the near misfortune of the aircraft, the Management of the Aero Contractors
Airline was yet to issue a statement to explain to the public the real cause of
the problem which put passengers on board under very sever traumatic condition.
The poor attitude of
the management to the incident and the sudden drop in patronage by passengers
across the country had, however incensed some staff to embark on silent
protest.
Since the past few
days, staff of the Airline have been wearing red ribbons to signify their
displeasure with the manner the management has been approaching issues with
them.
Some of the staff who
spoke with Newspot Nigeria in Lagos told our correspondents that the entire
staff was ready to give the management a complete show down if the situation
with the company will not improve.
They complained about
poor salaries and condition of service as well as general protests from
customers of the airline, which they stressed have been affecting the standard
of the company and the well being of the staff.
One of them disclosed
that the Aero Contractors staff had resolved to observe the silent protest for
only few weeks to give the management sufficient time to improve the lots of
the company.
He said if the
situation with the company does not improve, the staff will have no option than
to declare a full-scale protest, which he said might ground operations of the
Airline for the period the protest will last.
Efforts to get in touch
with the management of the company for response proved abortive as calls put
across to one of their relevant mangers were never answered.
Meanwhile, we observed that from the middle of last week, there has been sharp drop
in the patronage of the Aero contractors Airline, while other airlines at
different airports have been taking advantage with increase in their fairs.
The incident of the
near mishap of the Kaduna bound plane of the Aero Contractors plane has been
attributed to the drop in the patronage by passengers from across the country.
