The Taraba State
Acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, and the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu
Suleiman Adamu, survived an auto crash that left no fewer than two persons
sustaining various degrees of injury.
Daily Newswatch learnt that the incident occurred along Gombe Road, about 25
kilometres from Shafuri village in Bauchi State.
It was further learnt
that the crash, which occurred around 11.32am, involved seven escort vehicles
belonging to the Taraba State Government, with registration numbers: TRGH 01 S;
FADA 01; Escort 03; Escort 2 and the convoy of the emir.
Investigations
revealed that the acting governor was on his way to pay a condolence visit to
Governor Isa Yuguda over the death of his younger sister, Hajiya Umma Hafsatu
Ibrahim Kuna Biri, who died last week.
The emir, who is the
Bauchi State 2013 Amirul Hajj, was on his way to Gombe International Airport to
board a plane enroute Saudi Arabia, to join pilgrims from the state, to perform
this year’s hajj.
However, an eyewitness
told newsmen that the accident occurred when one of the vehicles in the convoy
of the Taraba Government tried to overtake another vehicle and in the process,
collided with one of the vehicles in the emir’s convoy.
Confirming the
incidence, the state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC),
Sunday Henry Olatunji, said out of the 16 persons that were involved in the
crash, only two sustained injuries, adding that no death was recorded.
Olatunji confirmed
that the accident involved two convoys belonging to the Taraba State Government
and the Emir of Bauchi State.
He attributed the
cause of the accident to over-speeding and wrong overtaking and cautioned
motorists to always obey traffic rules, especially now that the ember months
are here.
