A Pennsylvania
woman who stabbed her fiance on her wedding day was sentenced to
life in prison.
Before Na Cola Franklin was given her sentence, she said that
she didn’t mean to kill her fiance, Billy Brewster, and that she still loves
him.
“I
love him. I do still love him. I love him more than myself,” she said.
Brewster’s
mother, Barbara Obas, was in the courtroom while Franklin was being sentenced
and expressed her sorrow for her son. She said that he was very hardworking and
planned to find a gang free school for their children and a better job.
“You
killed him because you could… you took advantage of him. You showed no concern
for the father of your son,” she said.
The
32-year-old woman stabbed her husband-to-be on Aug. 11, 2012 after an argument.
A witness, Monique Kali, said that Brewster and Franklin were about to go get
something to eat when they started arguing.
According
to Kali, Franklin swung a knife and stabbed Brewster in the left side of
his chest, puncturing his heart. She said that her husband, Nakia Kali, knocked
the weapon out of her hand and Brewster went out the front door where police
found him.
At
her arraignment in jail, Franklin apparently was unable to grasp that her
fiance was really dead. When the judge told her that Brewster was pronounced
dead, she covered her face and began to sob.
“I
want my family back,” she said. “I want to go home.”
Franklin’s
defense attorney, John Waldron, said that he will appeal the case. He claimed
that Brewster came home drunk from a bachelor party and attacked Franklin.
Waldron said that Franklin grabbed the knife to protect her 9-month-old son.
Do
you think the woman who stabbed her fiance on her wedding day deserved her sentence?
