The Rivers Police Command on Wednesday assured that it would continue to protect lives, property and ensure the safety of the people of the state.
Mrs Angela Agabe, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO),
told newsmen in Port Harcourt that the ban on public procession in the state
was still in force.
Agabe said the police had dispersed protesting youths who
stormed the Rivers House of Assembly early today to cause breach of peace.
She said units of anti riot mobile policemen had been deployed
to strategic points in Port Harcourt to ensure safety of lives and property.
She said there was no cause for alarm as the police had restored
normalcy.
‘’ The attention of the commissioner of police Rivers State has been drawn to the statement made by Attorney General and the commissioner for justice on public procession in the state.

“The commissioner of police warned and also remind the general public that the ban on public procession is still on and that no matter highly placed a person or group are, any person who violates the law, will be prosecuted.
“The commissioner of police has, therefore, warned members of the
public that the police will use minimum force on the violators of this order.
“No matter highly placed the person or group are, that is the
exact statement of the commissioner of police on public procession. “
Agabe called on the people to be law abiding and go about their
lawful businesses unhindered. (NAN)
