Children in Rivers State have condemned a statement credited to Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, that they should come out and fight in the on-going crisis rocking the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during a visit to the Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Leyii Kwanee, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, the children, under the umbrella of Rivers Teenage Parliament, described the declaration credited to Wike as unguarded.
The spokesperson to the teenagers, Miss Soblachi Amadi, said the call portends grave danger, particularly for children and women of the state known for peace.
“Most victims of fight and war are us, children and our mummies, aunties, nieces and sisters, and so Uncle Minister, consider that we could be the victims of your call for fight”, Amadi told Wike.
Amadi wondered what Wike could be teaching them to learn when they grow up, with his current posturing, demanding him to apologise to the children and youths “which his ministry is in charge of educating”.
“They should leave Governor Amaechi alone. He built for us beautiful schools so we can learn and be great Nigerian citizens”, the teenagers further reminded Wike, while tasking President Goodluck Jonathan, to call the minister to order and rest any plan to instigate his supporters to fight.
Responding, Kwanee assured that Governor Chibuike Amaechi would do everything within the law to ensure that he protects lives of Rivers citizens, especially children and mothers.
