Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
yesterday, raised the alarm over alleged plot by the Action Congress of
Nigeria, ACN led government of Governor Adams Oshiomhole to sell the
multi-billion naira, Edo House located on Ahmadu Bello Way in Lagos using a
Lebanese contractor as a proxy to dispose of the said property.
Chairman of PDP in the state, Chief Dan Orbih, at a press
briefing in Benin, also alleged that money meant for the purchase is
being moved to Lebanon, Dubai and back to Nigeria adding that the state
government which boasted to have raised its revenue profile from N300million to
a whopping N2billion is broke.The PDP chairman accused the government of
unilaterally marketing the state property located in the commercial nerve
centre of the country unjustifiably.
He said, “We have on strong authority that the Adams
Oshiomhole’s ACN government has concluded plans to sell our prize asset, Edo
House in Lagos on Ahmadu Bello Way in Victoria Island in Lagos. In fact, we
believe that we have a duty to this state to bring it to the public because there
are very serious question begging for answer especially at a time the
government in Edo State is telling the world that they have raised the
internally generated revenue of the state from N300million to over N2 billion,
the question people are asking is, why is the government selling our house in
Lagos?.
“That is why we come out to alert the public, because this
government is fraudulent in their decision to sell this property, the process
is also fraudulent. We have strong information that they have moved the
money for the purchase to Lebanon, Dubai and back to Nigeria”.
However in a swift reaction yesterday the media adviser to
Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Prince Kassim Afegbua, denied that Edo House has
been sold adding that when PDP held sway they plundered the state’s resources.
He said that government would recover all Edo property acquired by the same
people making noise.
He said, “PDP cannot dictate to our government, when they had
opportunity to govern they plundered the state blind, we are in the process of
also recovering government houses that were acquired by those criticising now.
We are compiling the list and we will return to our people what was illegally
and surreptitiously taken away from Edo people.
