Osogbo, July 12, 2013 (NAN) A Tutor-General in Osun, Mr Kola Buhari, on Friday urged educators to rekindle the interest of students in the use of the library.
Buhari made the call in an interview with the News Agency of
Nigeria in Osogbo.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that tutors-general are
teachers promoted to the permanent secretary cadre in Osun.
According to Buhari, ``in as much as information technology has
made learning easier, it has brought distraction to students.’’
Buhari decried the way many Nigerian students were
concentrating on the entertainment aspect of the Internet.
He said modern day technology also had its robust value, saying
that the educative packages should be the focus of students.
``It is our responsibility as stakeholders in education to let
students realise that there is more to the Internet than social networking,
dating and chatting.
``With the e-library package, students can still be with their
electronic gadgets and learn.
``Many students do not even know that with the popular Google
search engine, they can solve academic problems,’’ Buhari said.
He said the use of the Internet should not discourage the use of
conventional libraries. ``Rather, students should use both.’’
Buhari also said that students should be properly
tutored on the need to concentrate on reading physical books and online texts.
``The days of visiting libraries are not over’’, he
stressed. (NAN)
