Incident believed to have happened as the
person was leaving Lagos airport
A British national has
been kidnapped just after leaving the international terminal of Lagos airport,
a consulate spokesperson said.
In a statement, the British High Commission
said it was “working closely with others to secure the release of the
hostage”. It added that no more detail could be provided at this stage due to
the “sensitive nature” of the incident.
A Foreign and
Commonwealth Office spokesperson said: “We are aware of reports of a missing
person and are liaising with Nigerian authorities.”
The kidnapping comes
less than four months after a British man was taken hostage and then quickly
released at the end of March, also in Lagos.
Back then a police
spokesman told agency reporters: “Lagos has never had a reputation for
kidnapping and we want that to remain as it is.”
