Despite serious condemnation against the activities of
homosexuals in the country by religious organisations and other interest
groups, the Anambra state Government yesterday revealed that the state currently
has about 50 homosexual and 618 prostitution spots. It described the areas
as HIV and AIDS high-risk targets in the state.
The Director of the state’s AIDS Control Agency, Dr. John Ndibe, who disclosed this to newsmen in Onitsha, said that the government would use its limited funds to target such spots and ensure that the operators were educated on the need to protect themselves and their clients against the deadly scourge.

Ndibe said, the
agency, as a co-ordinating agency on HIV and AIDS activities, was committed to
making sure that it gets the mother-to-child transmission of HIV and AIDS to
zero level in the state as directed by President Goodluck Jonathan.
He further disclosed that the agency had conducted a survey of
high-risk factors and spots for HIV and AIDS in the state in order to
effectively cut the transmission of the deadly virus.
“Now that we have their statistics and where they operate, we can reach out to them so as to educate them on the effect on the virus”.
