Professor Dahiru Yahaya has revealed a ‘verbal will’ of late
Kano emir, Alhaji Ado Bayero.
The renown Professor of history said the
late monarch never wanted any of his sons to succeed him after his death.
He made the disclosure at the one year
commemoration of the life and time of the late emir, organised by Ado Bayero
Foundation and held at Abdullahi Umar Auditorium, Bayero University Kano.
The close associate of the deceased said Emir Bayero confided in him on several
issues that were sacred to him which he could not have discussed with any of
his sons or relatives.
According to Professor Yahaya, late emir
Bayero had been living with the fear of the fate suffered by some of the Kano
emirs before him who had succeeded their fathers and had ended in misery.
His words: “There is no Kano Emir who
immediately succeeded his father and there was no violence. Kano Emir, late
Sulaiman once told his children that if he died, none of them should aspire to
succeed him, because there were better people in the emirate to succeed him.
Therefore, late Emir Dabo succeeded him.
“But when late Emir Usman immediately
succeeded his father Emir Dabo, he ended in misery. Again, when the son of late
emir Bello immediately took over from his father, himself too ended in misery”.
