Kogi State government has said that it will soon establish a trauma centre along the Okene-Lokoja Road in the state.
The State deputy governor, Yomi Awoniyi, stated this when he
received the state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety
Corps(FRSC) Mr Charles Abochi, at his office, in Lokoja.
The deputy governor, who described the state as a gate-way state
with 85 per cent of the traffic in the state being transient, said the
government is working towards converting the SURE-P hospital in Osara into a
mini-trauma centre to cater for victims of accidents along the stretch of
Okene-Lokoja -Abuja Road
Awoniyi, who noted that vehicles from 26 states in Nigeria
crisscross the state on a daily basis, said the situation is responsible for
the number of accidents on the state highways, adding that lawlessness
and bad habits of some motorists on the nation’s highways are some of the
factors responsible for the increasing number of accidents on the roads.
He, however, expressed optimism that the new sector
commander will bring his wealth of experience to bear in reducing road crashes
in the state.
