RIVERS State governor, Nyesom Wike, has declared that it may take three months before he starts operating from the Government House, given an alleged vandalism of facilities therein.
He accused his predecessor, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, of having looted
the facilities, including furniture, cars, bullet-proof doors, crested carpets,
curtains and windows in the Government House.
“As I speak with you, everything has been vandalised. I will not
enter the Government House in the next two or three months. There is no vehicle
in Government House, not even one. Yet, the former governor talks about
corruption," he said.
He made the allegation while speaking at a reception organised
at the end of a post-inauguration church service, held in Port Harcourt, on
Sunday.
Wike, however, said the ugly situation would not stop his
administration from developing Rivers State, assuring that he would not
disappoint the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the people of the state.
Reacting, Amaechi described as untrue, the allegation by Wike
that he (Amaechi) looted the facilities at the Government House.
Describing the allegation as false, Chief of Staff, Government
House, during the Amaechi administration, Chief Tony Okocha, said the property
in the Government House were intact before the immediate past administration
left.
At the post-inauguration event, Senate President, David Mark, assured
that PDP would return to power at the federal in 2019, noting that Nigerians
would be craving for the return of the party after four years of All
Progressives Congress (APC) rule.
He said PDP would only experience opposition for four years, as
most of the achievements of the party would be glaring to Nigerians within the
period.
Mark also said Rivers State was now the cornerstone of PDP
nationwide, admonishing Governor Wike to rise to the occasion and deliver
dividends of democracy, in line with expectations of the people who voted him.
The reception was attended by the Deputy Senate President, Ike
Ekweremadu; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihediohal; Senator
Hope Uzodinma, senators-elect from the South-South and South-East and PDP acting
national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, among others.
