Abuja, July 31, 2013 (NAN) The police on Wednesday arraigned one Innocent
Onueze in an Abuja Grade 2 Area Court in Kado, FCT, for allegedly attempting to
snatch a lady’s bag.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr Simeon Ibrahim, told the court
that, on July 20, an officer attached to Berger unit brought the matter to
the Utako police station.
He said that the officer reported that, on the same day, he
arrested and brought Onueze, a vehicle loader at Kaduna road to the police
station.
Ibrahim said the accused was caught while allegedly attempting
to snatch a lady’s handbag while she was passing-by.
He said that when the lady noticed that he wanted to snatch her
bag, she shouted, both of them struggled until a team of police officers at
Berger junction on patrol arrived at the scene.
Ibrahim said that the offence contravened Section 95 of the
Penal Code, which prescribed a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment or
fine, or both for an offender.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The Presiding Officer, Mr Ahmed Ado, granted bail to the
accused in the sum of N20, 000 and a reliable and responsible surety who
must have a permanent address with his family living with him.
Ado adjourned the case to Sept. 23 for further hearing. (NAN)
